Email a file without opening the Mail app on a Mac

First, the native macOS ways

Two options ship with the Mac, and it's worth knowing where they land:

• Drag a file onto the Mail Dock icon. This is the closest built-in trick — but it still opens a fresh compose window that you have to address and send yourself. It saves a step, not the whole task.
• Shortcuts or Automator. The Send Email action in Shortcuts can email a file without you touching a compose window, and Automator can do the same as a Quick Action.
